How do I check that an auditor’s CPA licence is real?
On the Federation of Accounting Professions site, tfac.or.th: the Online Service menu has a licence status check, ตรวจสอบสถานะผู้สอบบัญชี, and the status you want to see is ปกติ, normal. It takes a minute and is worth doing, because statements signed under a lapsed or revoked licence are treated as not properly audited at all.

Why bother
Because the risk lands on you, not on the fake. If the licence behind the signature has lapsed, the company has filed unaudited statements, which is an offence under the Accounting Act with the fine on the company and its director. The Ministry of Commerce itself has publicly reminded companies to check their auditor’s status before filing, precisely because statements signed under a licence that has lost effect, สิ้นผล, do not count as audited.
The check, step by step
- Get the auditor’s full name and CPA licence number from your firm before year end. Both appear on the face of every audit report, so a firm that hesitates to give them is telling you something.
- Go to tfac.or.th, the Federation of Accounting Professions (สภาวิชาชีพบัญชี), and open the Online Service menu.
- Use ตรวจสอบสถานะผู้สอบบัญชี, the auditor status check, and search by name or licence number.
- Read the status. ปกติ means the licence is in effect. สิ้นผล or anything else means it is not, and the person cannot sign your audit this year.
Two lookalikes that check something else
- The DBD’s e-Account lookup checks bookkeepers, ผู้ทำบัญชี, not auditors. A hit there does not make someone a CPA.
- A tax auditor, TA (ผู้สอบบัญชีภาษีอากร), is a real Revenue Department credential but can only certify small registered partnerships, within the 5 million baht capital and 30 million asset and revenue limits. A TA cannot sign the audit of a limited company.
If the check surfaces a problem, you need a licensed CPA quickly, especially in the January to April season. Comparing three licensed auditors is built for exactly that, and the going rates tell you what the replacement should cost. The independence rules, including why your bookkeeper cannot be the one signing, are the other half of vetting an auditor.
